Ribbon of Hope
ROLE

Concept Designer, CMF Designer, Industrial Designer, Manufacturing Engineer
COLLABORATORS

MJ Mayo, Ian Backstrom, Greg Reeseman

CONTEXT

A symbol of unity transformed through parametric design and additive manufacturing.
Commissioned for the American Cancer Society’s Hope Gala, this sculpture reimagined the awareness ribbon as a reusable, large-format 3D-printed installation.

Key Insights

Functional requirements and symbolism were fused through parametric control.
The client required a modular, durable sculpture that could be easily stored and reused. Parametric modeling enabled exploration of geometry while integrating practical hard points for modularity and floral arrangements.

application

Precise material formulation turned color into both message and medium.
Printed in custom-formulated Pantone Lavender PETG—representing all cancer types—the sculpture integrated a woven base texture symbolizing collective strength. Iterative color testing and extrusion calibration ensured visual accuracy and structural consistency.

impact

An additive icon that bridges emotional resonance and technical execution.
The modular structure supports annual reuse and has become the event’s visual centerpiece, symbolizing resilience and connection among attendees.
